The importance of form over hard and fast workouts

Intense, high-impact workouts promising quick results has become a popular fitness trend. However, prioritising form and function while still working out, over the intensity of a workout, can lead to more sustainable and long-term benefits for both the body and mind.

There is a special power in mindful movement that leaves you feeling invigorated, not depleted. But don’t worry – this doesn’t mean you won’t get a good sweat on!

 

Here are the three main reasons it’s important to prioritise form:

 

  1. Injury prevention. When you perform exercises with incorrect form, you put undue stress on your joints and muscles, increasing the risk of strains, sprains and other injuries. By paying attention to your form and ensuring that each movement is performed correctly, you can reduce the risk of injury and stay active for years to come.

 

  1. Target specific muscles. Another benefit of focusing on form is that it allows you to target the intended muscles more effectively. When you perform exercises with proper form, you engage the targeted muscles more efficiently, leading to better results.
